Villordsutch reviews Double Bubble…
In the latest Homebrew Review on the ZX Spectrum I look at a simple looking arcade puzzle game that involves you guiding two bubbles across a small obstacle course. I say simply, Double Bubble is a game that will have you cursing your machine in a matter of minutes as the secondary bubble leisurely floats off into another spike, millimetres before the exit!
Created between March to May 2016 and released in June by Miguetelo, Double Bubble is one of those games which opens with a minor level that you will come away thinking, ‘That was easy!’, followed by, ‘I bet I could easily conquer the next!’. That last thought stays with you like a hard to reach itch, when you’re defeated over and over again on the most basic of Level 3’s and you really need to get it conquered!
The look of the game is again a simple one, keeping it basic it in appearance, though this isn’t a knock as it suits the Double Bubble completely. If it was overly complicated I feel it would distract from what the core essence of what this game actually is. However I’m unsure if there’s a graphic bug within the game as there is a No. #2 littered through the levels you visit, although this doesn’t really distract you from the game mind you.
Boot up your ZX Spectrum – or your favourite Emulator – and get your swear jar ready as you are going to need it today.
