Videogame We Happy Few is getting a movie adaptation

April 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Compulsion Games is partnering with dj2 Entertainment and Gold Circle entertainment for an adaptation of the indie survival horror videogame We Happy Few, Variety has revealed.

“[Dmitri M. Johnson, Dan Jevons and Stephan Bugaj of dj2 Entertainment] approached us enthusiastically with really solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes,” said Guillaume Provost, head developer at Compulsion Games.

The Kickstarter-funded PC and Xbox One game takes place in the fictional English town of Wellington Wells during a dystopian, alternate 1960s, where the residents are given a government-imposed hallucinogenic drug called Joy to mask gruesome violence and an unspeakable horror they committed. One rebellious resident illegally free of the drug’s effects, risks his life to unravel the mystery and learn why his home is a bizarre open-air prison.
