Land of the Vikings trailer teases Viking-era city building

August 26, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Iceberg Interactive and developer Laps Games revealed their upcoming city-building strategy game set in the Viking era, Land of the Vikings,  earlier this week.  Fans of the horned helmeted blokes pillaging will be able to take part in the game’s early access on Steam for PC towards the end of the year.  Enjoy the new trailer below…

With Land of the Vikings take on the role of the Jarl of a new Viking settlement and help it prosper.  Manage resources, defend from enemy raids, guide the people through social conflicts and survive the harsh winter conditions.  As the most powerful and influential man in the village you may seem alone but worship the Norse gods and they will provide different bonuses that will assist in the running of the settlement.

There’s lots to do in a new viking village to help it thrive, trees need to be chopped and food to be gathered from the sea and hunting grounds.  Manage these resources carefully and they will support the villagers throughout the different seasons.

Each villager is their own person and have their own skills and abilities which is pretty important when it comes to assigning them to jobs.  Setting someone skilled in boatmaking will likely not make an efficient farmer.  Over time more Vikings will ask to join the settlement and these can be welcomed or turned away, though the population will also increase through the more natural route as couples get married.

Would-be Jarls also have the opportunity to trade with their neighbours.  Once a trade dock has been built these neighbours will send ships laden with various cargoes which can be bought, much to the delight of your villagers.  Of course, trading isn’t the only way for a Viking to make money, there’s also the more brutal and violent way that these folks are renowned for.  Raid foreign lands for gold and silver but make sure to train the warriors first.

Land of the Vikings uses a no-grid building structure allowing players to build wherever they want, plus ships and buildings can be customisable thanks to the Building Editor that will arrive in an early access update.

Look out for more news on Land of the Vikings in the future.
