Deadline is reporting that Vince Vaughn (True Detective) has signed on to appear in the upcoming war drama Hacksaw Ridge, which is to be directed by Mel Gibson (Apocalypto) and also has Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Sam Worthington (Avatar) attached to star.
Hacksaw Ridge will tell the story of Desmond Doss (Garfield), the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor whilst serving as an army medic during World War II.
According to the site, Vaughn will play “Sgt. Howell, a non-commissioned officer from Alabama whose job is to make sure the soldiers are ready for battle. Although he tries to instill fear in his soldiers by pushing them to their limits both physically and mentally, it is clear that he really cares about them and will do whatever it takes to keep them alive. Having a member who refuses to shoot and kill the enemy contradicts everything the sergeant has learned about war.”
Hacksaw Ridge is slated for release in 2017.
