Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Voltron has added several new cast members to feature alongside Daniel Quinn-Toye and Henry Cavill. Joining the film are Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Rita Ora (Southpaw), John Kim (Cruel Intentions), Alba Baptista (Warrior Nun), Samson Kayo (Our Flag Means Death) and Tharanya Tharan (Shantaram).
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the original Voltron series follows the ‘Voltron Force’, five young pilots who command robot ‘Lions’ that can combine into the giant warrior Voltron, as they seek to protect the planet Arus from King Zarkon and his evil minions.
The live-action film, which will be directed by Red Notice‘s Rawson Marshall Thurber from a script he co-wrote with Ellen Shanman, will focus on a new generation of Voltron pilots. Thurber said of the project “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to … those iconic elements that you love, that I love. And I’m so excited to share it with you.”
Producing the live-action Voltron are Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber, and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman.
