The fifth season of The Walking Dead is set to get underway on AMC in the Fall, and if the latest comments from producer David Alpert is any indication, we may only be a third of the way through the run of the hit zombie series. Speaking at a Produced By panel this past weekend, Alpert responded to a question about working with pre-existing material by stating that they have a plan for twelve seasons of the show:
“I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12…we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.”
With The Walking Dead enjoying stellar ratings, it’s no wonder that AMC wants to extend the show as long as possible, and with Robert Kirkman’s comic book series running for 128 issues and counting there should be no shortage of material to adapt. However, can a show really run for twelve seasons without getting stale?
