Back in January, it was reported that Warner Bros. was to team with Funko for an animated movie based upon the hugely successful line of Pop! Vinyl pop culture collectibles, and now we have official confirmation from the studio.
“[Funko’s] fresh take on pop culture make these figurines incredibly appealing to fans of all ages,” said Allison Abbate, EVP of Warner Animation Group.
“We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit,” added Funko CEO Brian Mariotti. “This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.”
Lloyd Taylor (The Wild) is set to write the script for the Funko movie, with Teddy Newton, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind the Pixar short Day & Night, crafting the story and Mark Dindal (The Emperor’s New Groove, Chicken Little) directing.
