Yesterday we brought you some comments from Ben Affleck, who confirmed that production on The Batman is slated to get underway in the Spring, and now comes official word from Warner Bros.’ (former) President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman that the Dark Knight solo movie is set to hit cinemas in 2018.
Silverman was chatting to Deadline about stepping down from his position, during which he outlined some of the studio’s big releases from its slate over the next two years:
“Next year, The LEGO Batman Movie looks like a monster, and Kong: Skull Island looks like a global hit and we have Chris Nolan’s Dunkirk, and King Arthur, and Wonder Woman, which is such a joy for the studio and fans. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a big film, and there are others like CHiPS, which feels like a real franchise for the studio. And Toby Emmerich’s films are also really humming. Then in 2018, there is a second Fantastic Beasts film, and Ready Player One feels like an ambitious movie by the world’s best filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, that will set the world on fire. There is Aquaman with James Wan, and Scooby-Doo will be a huge launch and then there is LEGO Ninjago. And then there is Ben Affleck’s Batman. I believe the place I love is set to succeed in the long term here and I can be a bit selfish and think, how do I want to live my own life.”
Warner Bros. has July 27th 2018 free for a DC movie, so it would seem safe to assume that will be the date for The Batman, unless there’s any further shuffling in the schedule to accommodate the recently announced Gotham City Sirens, which is said to be on the fast track.
