We’re just a couple of weeks out from the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and given all of the recent accusations directed at Joss Whedon lately, it seems it’s now only a matter of time before Whedon and his Josstice League theatrical version become little more than a fading memory.
Whedon was of course brought in to complete – and completely rework – Justice League following Zack Snyder’s original departure from the 2017 trainwreck, with Warner Bros. having been keen to exorcise Snyder’s vision from the team-up movie following negative reactions to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The plan ultimately backfired, and the resulting Josstice League was panned by fans and critics and flopped at the box office, costing the studio a reported $60 million in total. And now, in a must-read in-depth feature on the whole Justice League situation over, Vanity Fair has quoted an anonymous Warner Bros. executive as describing the studio bigwigs’ reaction to what Whedon delivered:
“When we got to see what Joss actually did, it was stupefying… The robber on the rooftop—so goofy and awful. The Russian family—so useless and pointless. Everyone knew it. It was so awkward because nobody wanted to admit what a piece of shit it was.”

Whatever your opinion on Josstice League, Whedon and/or Snyder, it’s certainly exciting that we’ll soon get to see for ourselves how two different filmmakers approached what is essentially the same material, and whether Warner Bros. was right to try and lighten up what Snyder had planned for DC’s greatest heroes.
In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad, and Darkseid, and their dreadful intentions.
