Warner Bros. is remaking New Jack City

September 29, 2019 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has tapped Snowfall actor and filmmaker Malcolm M. Mays to pen the script for a remake of the 1991 gangster film New Jack City.

Directed by Mario Van Peebles, the original movie saw Wesley Snipes starring as Nino Brown, a Harlem drug lord who becomes the target of Ice-T’s NYPD detective, and also featured Van Peebles, Chris Rock, Judd Nelson and Allen Payne in its cast. A critical and commercial success, the film grossed almost $50 million at the box office upon its release.

As yet, there’s no word on a potential director for the New Jack City remake, but the new movie is being produced by Bill Gerber (A Star Is Born) along with the original film’s producer Doug McHenry.
