Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for their rap biopic American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, which features Donald Glover and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin as the titular artist at various points in his life.
The British-American rapper, who is arguably one of the most influential artists of his generation, came to prominence in 2019 when he was arrested as part of a Trump-era immigration policy that saw him detained for a number of weeks.
Directing American Dream: The 21 Savage Story is Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori, Fam Udeorji, and Luis Perez. The film’s cast also includes Gail Bean, Druski, Jabari Banks, Chad Lindberg, Victoria Pedretti, Young Mazino, and Poker Face‘s Natasha Lyonne. Check out the trailer below…
While there is no official synopsis for the film, American Dream: The 21 Savage Story will star Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin at different points in his life, chronicling his early years in the U.K. as an undocumented immigrant, to his incarceration by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the “Free 21 Savage” that followed.
American Dream: The 21 Savage Story will be released in theatres on July 4, 2024.
