Watch the Blade Runner 2049 anime prequel Black Out 2022

We’ve seen a couple of prequel shorts for Blade Runner 2049 based on the characters played by Jared Leto and Dave Bautista, and now with just over a week to go until the release of the hotly-anticipated sci-fi we have another, this time in the medium of anime.

Below you will find Blade Runner Black Out 2022, an animated short from Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo’s Shinichiro Watanabe, which takes place 27 years prior to the new movie where an EMP detonation has caused a global blackout that has massive, destructive implications all over the world. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 is set for release on October 6th and sees Harrison Ford reprising the role of Rick Deckard alongside Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto and Edward James Olmos.
