…Since 20th Century Fox announced that it has finally pulled the trigger on the long-gestating Deadpool solo movie, there’s been a tonne of speculation as to whether the studio will play it safe with a PG-13 rating, or go all out with a hard-R. Well, according to co-writer Rhett Reese, a decision on the rating is yet to be made, and “there may not be an announcement for a long while.” Which – in my opinion – translates to “it’s PG-13, but we’re not going to announce it as we don’t want to kill all the positive buzz we’ve built up these past few weeks”…
…This week brought official confirmation from Fox that Bryan Singer will occupy the director’s chair for the studio’s other 2016 superhero movie X-Men: Apocalypse, which will also (re)introduce the characters of Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey – albeit younger versions of the characters to reflect the 1983 setting of the latest chapter in the X-Men universe; speaking about their inclusion, writer-producer Simon Kinberg touched upon having to recast James Marsden, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen for younger incarnations of the original X-Men trilogy characters: “It’d be very hard to do, because Halle, Famke, and Jimmy and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life. But I also would have said before X-Men: First Class that there would be no actors who can stand alongside Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart…”
…In one other piece of X-Men news, Simon Kinberg has revealed that the extended ‘Rogue Cut’ of X-Men: Days of Future Past will arrive next summer and offer up over 10 minutes of added footage, including Anna Paquin’s scenes as Rogue. “It’s a big chunk, a substantial part of the movie. We want to give (fans) the fullest picture of the film — behind the camera, and in front of it with the Rogue Cut and provide more of the process we went through to make the film…”
…We’ve heard on several occasions that Fox’s upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four will by heavily inspired by the Ultimate Fantastic Four comic books, and some new plot rumours surfaced this week lending its support to that. Apparently, the Josh Trank-directed film will follow the Ultimate origin story for Marvel’s First Family, with the FF and Doctor Doom through a lab experiment gone wrong in a way, where they create a portal to another world or dimension (its not clear) and they get their powers after the exposure to this other dimension/planet…”
