If you cast your mind back to 2016, you may recall that Will Ferrell attached himself to an untitled eSports comedy set up at Legendary Pictures, and now comes word that the project has found a director and is now gearing up to press start.
Deadline reports that the film will be directed by Richie Keen, who made his feature debut on the Ice Cube-Charlie Day comedy Fist Fight from 2017. His previous TV credits include the likes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Goldbergs and Disjointed.
The comedy will see Ferrell playing a middle-aged gamer who has managed to maintain impeccable hand-eye coordination and competes in various eSports competitions with his professional team, comprised of much younger gamers, which makes him stand out.
In addition to the eSports comedy, director Keen is also attached to direct an adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book series Imagine Agents for 20th Century Fox, although its status is currently unclear following the Disney acquisition.
