Will Ferrell is set to become the latest A-list comedy actor to lead a Netflix feature film, having signed on to star in Eurovision for the streaming service.
Ferrell will also write the movie, based around the Eurovision Song Contest, with fellow Saturday Night Live alum Andrew Steele. His regular collaborator Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) is on board as an executive producer.
Deadline broke the news of the movie, which they speculate might be a deliberate attempt to appeal to an audience outside of the USA. It is obviously those in Europe who will be more familiar with the eponymous competition.
Ferrell’s move to Netflix puts him into the same area as the likes of Adam Sandler and Chris Rock, who have found the streaming service to be a lucrative home for their work.
R-rated comedies in Hollywood have struggled for box office dollars in recent years, so it’s understandable that big stars of these movies are deciding to make the move over to Netflix, which allows for a much greater level of success.
So Eurovision is coming to Netflix and it’s possible that Will Ferrell will be singing in it. Is it too much to ask for a performance of Boats N’ Hoes?
