Will Ferrell is set to take on the role of corrupt FIFA executive and whistleblower Chuck Blazer in HBO Film’s adaptation of Mary Papenfuss and Teri Thompson’s book How Chuck Blazer Got Rich From – and Sold Out – the Most Powerful Cabal in World Sports.
Born in Queens, Blazer climbed through the ranks of professional football, becoming General Secretary of CONCACAF and a member of FIFA’s Executive Committee, where he abused his positions to commit fraud and embezzlement. He then agreed to turn informant for the FBI and IRS in an investigation which unearthed widespread fraud, racketeering, collusion and money laundering at the highest levels of football’s world governing body.
American Huckster is set to be directed by Leslye Headland, who is coming off the hit Netflix series Russian Doll. She is currently rewriting the original script by Robert Siegel, and will executive produce with Ferrell and Adam McKay of Gary Sanchez Productions.
