It looks like the long-teased sequel to the 2010 action comedy MacGruber is taking a step closer to becoming a reality, with director Jorma Taccone taking to Twitter to reveal that he and star Will Forte have started working on the screenplay to the follow-up.

MacGruber started its life as a Saturday Night Live parody of the TV series MacGyver, and spun off into a series of Pepsi commercials, the success of which led to a feature length adaptation, which was released in 2010 and saw Forte joined in the cast by Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Powers Boothe, Val Kilmer and Maya Rudolph. Although it received mixed reviews and flopped at the box office, it has went on to become a cult favourite… although whether than will translate into a greenlight for the sequel remains to be seen.
