Remakes are nothing new in this day and age but an increasing trend in recent years is the movie-to-television remake, which has now been bolstered by the news that Hitch – the 2005 rom-com starring Will Smith and Eva Mendes – is set to be revamped for the small screen.
FOX are currently developing the half-hour comedy inspired by the movie about a professional ‘date doctor’ who helps men woo the girls of their dreams. The original movie took a whopping $370 million and a remake has previously been on the table twice before but stalled on both occasions.
THR are reporting that Will Smith will executive produce with his company and the sitcom will be scribed by writing partners Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (Surviving Christmas, Leap Year). No word yet on the cast or when production is set to begin.
