Will Smith to reunite with Akiva Goldsman for sci-fi Brilliance

September 9, 2019 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that Will Smith is set to reunite with writer-producer Akiva Goldsman (I, Robot, I Am Legend) on the sci-fi feature Brilliance, which is in the works at Paramount Pictures.

Based on Marcus Sakey’s novel of the same name, Brilliance takes place in a world where 1% of the population are born with special powers, and Smith will portray a federal agent, Nick Cooper, who is tasked with keeping tabs on these ‘Brilliants’ using his own ability to read body language and predict people’s moves.

Brilliance was previously set up at Legendary and Universal, with Smith attached to star. The new take will be scripted by Goldsman, who is also set to produce the adaptation with Shane Salerno (Armageddon, Savages).

Smith is coming off Disney’s hugely successful live-action Aladdin remake, the highest grossing release of his career, and has several projects incoming in the animated adventure Spies in Disguise, sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man, and action comedy sequel Bad Boys for Life [watch the trailer here].
