According to Mashable, Willem Dafoe has signed on to lend his voice to the character of Ryuk the Shinigami in Adam Wingard’s adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s manga series Death Note.
Dafoe joins a cast that includes Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys), Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton), Paul Nakauchi (Alpha and Omega), and Shea Whigham (Agent Carter).
Death Note follows “a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name. A cat-and-mouse game ensues when he’s tracked by a reclusive police officer.” It is set to premiere on Netflix some time next year.
