Willem Dafoe joins the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley

October 16, 2019 by Liam Waddington

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse) is the latest addition to the cast of Nightmare Alley, the next film by director Guillermo del Toro.

The noir-thriller is an adaptation of William Lindsay’s 1946 novel and is set in a world of carnival hustlers and con men, telling the story of a mentalist who teams with a psychologist in order to swindle the rich. According to the THR, Dafoe will play the head barker at a travelling carnival.

Dafoe will join the already announced cast of Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) and Cate Blanchett (Where’d You Go, Bernadette) who are the leads of Nightmare Alley alongside Rooney Mara (Mary Magdalene), Toni Collette (Hereditary), and David Strathairn (The Expanse).

Guillermo del Toro will direct the thriller for Fox Searchlight from a script he co-wrote alongside Kim Morgan. Production is set to start at the beginning of 2020.
