Deadline is reporting that legendary filmmaker William Friedkin is set to direct an adaptation of best-selling novel The Winter of Frankie Machine.
Both Michael Mann and Martin Scorsese had previously been linked to the project, as was Robert de Niro, but now it looks like Friedkin is finally getting it off the ground. The adaptation of Don Winslow’s 2007 novel has been on the horizon for several years now, and Friedkin will start from scratch with Winslow set to write the script.
The drama revolves around Frank Machianno, “a mob hitman who has retired to run a bait shop. He agrees to help the son of a mob boss resolve a dispute with another Mafioso but is forced to turn into Frankie Machine again when he realizes he’s been set up to be killed.”
No word on any casting just yet, but we will keep you posted when news is announced.
