Deadline is reporting that Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) will star alongside Timothee Chalamet in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Willy Wonka prequel. Key’s role in the film is currently being kept under wraps.
Wonka will reportedly “focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures before opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.” Chalamet, who will take on the role of Willy Wonka, will sing and dance in a feature film with reports previously revealing that “several musical numbers are set to appear in the film.”
The Wonka prequel will be directed by Paul King from a screenplay by Simon Farnaby. The prequel will be the third adaptation of the iconic Roald Dahl story for Warner Bros.
The studio famously made the first film in 1971 that starred Gene Wilder as the titular character. Then the studio brought it back with a Tim Burton-directed remake Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005 with frequent Burton collaborator Johnny Depp taking on the role.
