All roads, or rivers lead back to the MCU following the news that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier director Kari Skoland is set to helm a sequel to Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen thriller Wind River.
Deadline reports that Castle Rock Entertainment will produce a sequel to the critically acclaimed (88% on Rotten Tomatoes) crime drama titled Wind River: The Next Chapter, with production set to kick off in January. Martin Sensmeier (Yellowstone, The Magnificent Seven) will reprise his role as Wind River local Chip Hanson, while The Handmaid’s Tale‘s Kari Skogland will direct. Patrick Massett & John Zinman (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) have written the script.
The synopsis for Wind River: The Next Chapter reveals that terror has escalated on the Wind River reservation as a series of ritualistic murders remain unsolved. The FBI therefore enlists the aid of Hanson, a newly minted tracker for the U.S. Fish & Game, who becomes embroiled in a desperate and dangerous fight between the authorities, a vigilante and the Reservation he calls home.
2017’s Wind River was a neo-Western thriller written and directed by the Oscar nominated Taylor Sheridan. It told the story of Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner), a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service tracker who finds the body of an 18-year-old woman on an American Indian reservation in snowy Wyoming. When the autopsy reveals that she was raped, FBI agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) arrives to investigate. Teaming up with Lambert as a guide, the duo soon find that their lives are in danger while trying to get to the bottom of the mystery.
