THR is reporting that NBC is teaming up with Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) for a TV adaptation of the Top Cow comic book Witchblade from creator Marc Silvestri.
According to the site, the show “centers on homicide detective Sara Pezzini, who’s on the hunt for an elusive serial killer and must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District — until one day, the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. Her bracelet is the Witchblade, an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history, and Sara is next in line.”
Witchblade ran for 185 issues between 1995 and 2015, and was previously adapted as a TV series by TNT in 2201, with Yancy Butler taking on the lead role for its two seasons. A feature film adaptation was announced it 2008, but failed to materialise.
