Wolf Warriors 2 has become the highest ever grossing film in China

August 8, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Wolf Warriors 2 is now the highest grossing movie ever in China.

After just 12 days of release, the action film directed by and starring Wu Jing, has earned an inordinate amount of money, bringing in RMB 3.4B which puts it ahead of the previous highest earner Mermaid on RMB 3.9B.

Converting to US dollars, Wolf Warriors 2 has now earned $506 million which is a substantial taking by any metric. Current predictions for the film’s final earnings are $747 million.

If it hits this lofty figure the film will have earned more money in China than Titanic earned in the U.S. (not accounting for inflation).

This only goes to further prove the value of the Chinese market and illustrates just why so many Hollywood blockbusters are targeting the country for vast swaths of their box office takings.

Wolf Warriors 2 has also now beaten The Fate of the Furious ($393m/RMB 2.6B) to become 2017s highest grossing film in China.
