Wonder Woman passes $800 million at the worldwide box office

August 20, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros.’ DC blockbuster Wonder Woman has reached another milestone at the box office this weekend, with the film taking its global haul to a whopping $800 million.

The Patty Jenkins-directed superhero movie has grossed $404 million domestically, making it the highest-grossing DCEU release in the U.S., and Warner Bros.’ third biggest film ever behind The Dark Knight ($533.3 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($448.1 million).

Worldwide, Wonder Woman trails the box office total of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($873.3 million), and is the fifth highest grossing movie of the year so far after Beauty and the Beast ($1.263 billion), The Fate of the Furious ($1.239 billion), Despicable Me 3 ($948.4 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($862.3 million).

Gal Gadot will be reprising the role of the Amazon Princess this November for Justice League, while Wonder Woman 2 is set to hit cinemas in 2019.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
