Last week it was reported that Woody Harrelson was in talks to join the upcoming young Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie, and now the official Star Wars site has confirmed his casting.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” said directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
The site makes no mention of Harrelson’s role, although last week’s report stated that he would be playing a mentor character to the iconic scoundrel. A previous rumour had also linked Christian Bale to the part.
It’s also worth noting that the official site lists a release date of “2018” rather than the previously announced May 2018, adding credence to the rumour that it will be pushed back to December.
The Han Solo movie will see Alden Ehrenreich taking on the title role alongside Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has also signed on for an as-yet-unrevealed role.
