Activision have revealed during their investors call that Bungie are already hard at work on their next full game release – a sequel to Destiny.
Activision also boasted impressive numbers for Bungie’s shared world shooter, with more than 9.5 million registered players. Of course this doesn’t equate to sales necessarily, with gamers having multiple accounts, but it’s still very good numbers.
On top of that active players wrack up 3 hours of gameplay a session – so for those who are playing it, it seems to have some staying power.
What the future holds for Destiny is unclear. The plan was to stretch the series out for a decade – but to me Destiny doesn’t seem like the kind of game that needs a sequel, as opposed to regular updates. Numerous DLC packs are on the way, with the upcoming pack in December being called The Dark Below.
Time will tell if Destiny one day becomes an annualised series.
