20th Century Fox has wasted little time in getting the viral marketing campaign for X-Men: Apocalypse underway. Just two days ago it was confirmed that Bryan Singer will return to the world of the Marvel mutants to direct the 2016 follow-up to this year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and now Fox has launched two viral sites – M-Underground, whose mission is to expose those who wish to create a rift between humans and the genetically gifted, and The Tandem Initiative, which seeks to help explore the growing generation of “gifted” Homo Sapiens Superior.
UPDATE: Turns out these viral sites are actually for the home-entertainment release of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Meanwhile, with Apocalypse set to reintroduce Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey, writer-producer Simon Kinberg has spoken about having to recast the likes of James Marsden, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen with younger incarnations of the original X-Men trilogy characters: “It’d be very hard to do, because Halle, Famke, and Jimmy and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life. But I also would have said before X-Men: First Class that there would be no actors who can stand alongside Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart.”
Who would you like to see taking on the roles of Cyclops, Storm and Jean? Let us know your thoughts…
X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27th 2016, with a cast that so far includes James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).
