As has been the case with a number of high-profile blockbusters in recent years, 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix found itself undergoing extensive reshoots, which resulted in the mutant superhero adventure being pushed back from its original November 2nd 2018 date to February and then June of 2019.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the reshoots – which were reportedly the result of poor test screenings – primarily focused on revamping the third act and switching its setting from space to a little more underwhelming of a location.
According to the outlet, “the filmmakers decided to revamp the look of Phoenix in post (more ‘cosmic’ and less ‘flamy,’ according to the director) and shoot a new third act (instead of taking place in space, the climax finds all the X-Men kidnapped and on board a military train).”
