Netflix is looking to tackle an adaptation of A.J. Quinnell’s Man on Fire and The Perfect Kill and has found its star.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll will star in and executive produce Netflix’s upcoming series Man on Fire, which was first announced back in March. Deadline broke the story, adding that director Steven Caple Jr. (Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, Creed II) will direct the first two episodes.
Per the report, Abdul-Mateen II will “lead as John Creasy, a once high-functioning and skilled Special Forces mercenary known for surviving even the most desolate of situations. Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.”
The first two books in Quinnell’s five-book series were adapted for the 2004 film starring Denzel Washington as well as the 1987 Italian film of the same name starring Scott Glenn. Netflix has attached Kyle Killen (Fear Street) as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series. At the time of reporting, there’s no set release date for Man on Fire.
