Zachary Levi reveals the worst part of wearing the Shazam! costume

March 21, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Zachary Levi, the star of DC’s Shazam!, has revealed the worst thing about wearing the hero’s costume.

Playing a major superhero on the big screen is a big moment for Hollywood actors in 2019 and Zachary Levi certainly wouldn’t complain about his role starring in the upcoming Shazam! But it’s not all easy going, especially when it comes to wearing the hero’s costume.

A common complaint in the past by actors portraying superheroes is that the suits aren’t friendly to those who might need to use the bathroom and it sounds like nothing has changed for Shazam! Levi revealed the worst part of the Shazam costume to ComicBook.com:

“It’s what everybody says, it’s the inconvenience of when you need to go to the bathroom. Because in order for it to look great, you have to have it kind of be seamless. You can’t have a bunch of zippers and things everywhere, unless you’re like Deadpool, I guess. He had a bunch of zippers. If you’re created by Rob Liefeld, then you’re going to have a bunch of pouches and zippers, and no ankles.

“It’s just the overall kind of uncomfortability sometimes of wearing essentially a massive spandex adult size onesie. It’s super tight, it becomes kind of like a second skin, I would overheat in it. I would freeze in it. The electronics in it would be a dance sometimes. But all of that, whatever, I’ll take all of that times ten if I get to do this again. If I get to be the guy to wear the suit, I’ll take the lumps, I’ll do it.”

Well, at least the uncomfortableness of the suit hasn’t put Levi off from wanting to play the character again. Perhaps he might get an upgrade if a sequel gets made.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Shazam will see Zachary Levi starring as the titular superhero, with Asher Angel as his young alter-ego Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard, Adam Brody as Freddie Freeman, Ross Butler as Eugene Choi, D. J. Cotrona as Pedro Pena, Meagan Good as Darla Dudley, and Michelle Borth as Mary Bromfield. The film is set for release on April 5th 2019.
