Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead franchise is dead at Netflix

August 10, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The effects of Rebel Moon and its poor reception from audiences have made Netflix second-guess the future of Zack Snyder’s franchises.

The Wrap reports that the streamer will no longer pursue any more Army of the Dead movies, even though an animated series and a sequel were planned. Snyder had previously helmed Army of the Dead for Netflix in 2021, and the film had a slightly unrelated spinoff prequel with Army of Thieves.

According to the report, we won’t be seeing the animated spinoff Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and the movie spinoff Planet of the Dead. The filmmaker must’ve known it was a daunting task for anyone, as he already admitted, “We are very ambitious with everything.”

The zombie action film was a success for Synder and the streamer; it scored the rare Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes for the filmmaker and, in its first 28 days on Netflix, was watched in 75 million households, totalling a viewership of 186.54 million hours.

Now, if fans want more of the Army of the Dead franchise, they’ll have to turn to Six Flags theme parks this Halloween, as a themed experience is planned.

Army of the Dead and the Rebel Moon director’s cuts are both now streaming on Netflix.
