Ever the pusher of boundaries, the once PG-13 Justice League is gone, and Zack Snyder is replacing it with his now R-rated Director’s Cut.
As per Filmratings.com, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be rated R. The film has received this rating for violence and some language. For comparison, the film’s theatrical version was only rated PG-13 rating for sequences of sci-fi violence and action.
This is by no-means that Warner Bros. was willing to take one of their DC films down this path before. Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received an R-rating with its Ultimate Edition, abd both Joker and Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) saw theatrical runs with their R-ratings. James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad will also be “heavily R-rated”.
Snyder did previously hint that Batman would drop at least one “F-bomb” in the movie, so that will likely be one of the reasons it received that R-rating for language. The violence rating will likely delight fans of the darker side of things, hinting that this version’s battles will have an edge.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will release on HBO Max on March 18th, and the R-rating news follows a string of updates about the film, including stunning black-and-white promotional posters, as well as a recent tease of Jared Leto’s Joker and his “road weary” new look.
Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Jared Leto as The Joker and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad, and Darkseid, and their dreadful intentions.
