According to Deadpool 2 star Zazie Beetz — who plays Domino — the upcoming sequel will explore themes that weren’t present in the previous film. Chatting with Comicbook.com, the Atlanta actress reveals one key difference that separates this film from the original:
“In Deadpool 2 I think we go heavier than the first one did. Like Atlanta, the themes are darker. I liked playing this woman who could meet Deadpool face-to-face and toe-to-toe. In terms of our wit and our banter, we match. It really was nice to play that.”
While Deadpool was wonderful for its irreverent comedy, and especially the fact that it wasn’t taking itself too seriously, a darker sequel is not necessarily a bad thing. For one, a rehash of the original would be pretty disappointing. Two, it will be fun to see how Deadpool turns these serious themes on their head from time to time (as we saw in the brilliant first trailer).
