Ziggurat Interactive has announced they will be releasing the once unfinished Atari Jaguar full motion video game, American Hero, onto PC and consoles this summer. Developer Empty Clip Studios have reengineered American Hero from the ground up so that gamers will at last be able to experience this blatantly 90’s FMV game for themselves.
American Hero was written in the 90s spoofing the over-the-top 80’s action films and strangely enough has itself become a caricature of 90’s cinema. The FMV playable movie features the acting talents of Timothy Bottoms (The Last Picture Show, Elephant), Daniel Roebuck (The Fugitive, Final Destination) and Musetta Vander (O Brother, Where Art Thou, Wild Wild West) and is filled with sleazy dives, lovely ladies and villains doing a bit of brain-washing.
In American Hero, players take the role of a former American intelligence agent who sets out to stop a dangerous virologist who intends to release a virus into the Los Angeles water supply. Through this gritty action story, players will need to make spur-of-the-moment decisions in order to defend the only scientist who holds the cure for this deadly disease.
“With American Hero, we sought to balance conservation of the project’s original vision with editorial restoration wherever game assets were incomplete,” said Matt Shores, CEO of Empty Clip Studios. “We feel that this was the best approach to resurrect the game and allow players a chance to experience a title that was never released to the public.”
“American Hero is a buried treasure from the Atari archives that was nearly lost to time after the Jaguar CD’s abrupt end,” said Michael Devine, SVP of Business Development at Ziggurat Interactive. “To be in a position to restore and complete this game, and preserve a unique part of video game history is exactly what Ziggurat is all about.”
