Zoe Saldaña calls the pending release of Avatar 2 a “nerve-wracking” experience

May 5, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Returning to a role is no easy task, especially one from over a decade ago. Actress Zoe Saldaña is experiencing that as she awaits the release of Avatar: The Way of Water.

Saldaña, who stars in the film as the Na’vi princess Neytiri, is returning for the upcoming Avatar sequel. This new film comes thirteen years after Avatar dominated the box office. Since then, the film has fallen out of pop culture conversations, but the impact still remains. Disney has a hit theme park experience on its hands and the buzz for the footage shown at CinemaCon had the film industry going wild.

Is this return something Saldaña is ready for? She offers up her feelings in a new interview. During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Saldaña says the December release of Avatar: The Way of Water is exciting, yet a bit stressful.

“It’s exciting; nerve-wracking. Humbling as well, you know — the wait is finally over,” says Saldaña. “And we get to share something that we love so much with so many people that we know love it, too.”

Fans are excited to see what Saldaña does in this follow-up and will likely be the highlight once again. She’ll return in Avatar: The Way of Water alongside Sam Worthington’s Jake and their children.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive,  and the tragedies they endure.

Avatar: The Way of Water is directed by James Cameron and sees Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sigourney Weaver all reprising their roles from the 2009 blockbuster, while new additions to the cast include Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Filip Geljo, Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Duane Evans Jr., Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Keston John, and CJ Jones.

Avatar: The Way of Water is set for release on December 16th.
